"Fortnight" - A free-to-play online video game - has rocked the gaming industry in recent years, making it a catapult in the wider socio-cultural landscape beyond this region.

The success of its run-up has questioned the future of some video game companies such as Electronic Arts (EA) and Take-Two Interactive, because industry veterans have intense competition in gaming space dante sales.

Earlier in February, shares of EA and Take-Two were marked after the third quarter earnings was released. Activision Blizzard also saw a major drop in its shares on that day.

Analysts say that problems arising from these top gaming firms are beyond the growing competition of Fortnight, which has been made by Epic Games.

"I think that's the problem ... not only Fortnite," said Tom Wijman, Senior Market Analyst in Newzoo, a marketing analytics company specializing in sports and esports. "The main reason is that expectations are very high and Fortnite is an easy thing to point to your finger - but this is not the cause of the problem."

Vajman said that now every sport is being compared with Fortnight, "but Farnite's way of exploding in popularity is no comparison."

Daniel Ahmad, an analyst at Nico Partners, said that it would be "foolish" to believe that FortNet is "one more sole reason" for the problems faced by top gaming companies.

Take-Two Interactive refused to comment on this story, while Electronic Arts and Activision Blizzard did not respond to requests for comment.

Fortnite's "Battle Royale" mode, arguably its most popular and who made this game a hometown, contains 100 players, who were thrown onto a death map with the purpose of surviving in the last one.

Its popularity has attracted top video game players, influencers and even famous celebrities such as rapper Drake.

Reflecting the popularity of the game, more than 25 million YouTube views have come from "live" in-game concert by electronic dance music producer Marshmallo in early February.

Unrealistic expectations

Commenting on the upheaval of the recent stock market, faced by veterans of the video game, Vjeman said that the problem is with the "balloon" expectations of these companies as well as their shareholders, the recently sold "long time Was coming from. "

Ahmed of Nico Partners said, this is more than last year, which pointed to future concerns in the other concerns like Blockbuster titles and pipelines last year. He also said that categories such as the Mobile Games and Battle Royal style can emerge and change the competitive landscape.

In fact, EA recently launched its online, free-to-play Battle Royale titled "Apex Legends". This game has proven popular so far, the company has announced that 25 million players signed up for it within a week of launch on February 25.

However, the success of Apex legends can be attributed to Fortnite and its predecessors such as "PlayerUnogn's Battle."

This is because the Battle of Royal Games has moved so fast that the new title in the market is very much in view of the preceding game, it has been said that research and analysis director for PHS Harding-Rolls, IHS Markets Are the directors of .

"Fortnite is such a big thing that you immediately understand what Apex legends are," he said.

Competition for time and money

Although Fortnite may not be the only reason that major video game companies are struggling, analysts generally agree that the competition of gamers' time will become a problem. Free-to-play video games keep their players in place for content updates or in-game events to maintain their user base, so that money can be earned through the sale of in-game items.

Harding-Rolls said that gamers would be less likely to take different titles and / or spend money on other sports, if they are very special.

To clarify his point, Harding-Rolls said that someone could argue that spending on cosmetic items in FortNight could overlap with the same audience, which is the money for the purchase of the game in the EA's popular FIFA Football Simulator franchisee Pays.
